Dr. Sue Schmitt Endowed Scholarship supports the academic advancement of underrepresented minorities enrolled in the College of Education, a commitment that Dr. Schmitt championed during the course of her career.
Why are donations necessary?
We prepare ethical, reflective, transformative professionals to advance social, economic and political justice in collaboration with local and global communities. Seattle University College of Education has a long and distinguished history of preparing ethical and reflective leaders who are making systemic changes from the classroom to the boardroom. The College’s 10 academic program areas offer graduate degrees that prepare students for careers in K-12 schools (requiring state certification) and non-K-12 areas. Additionally, the College also has a pathway to a bachelor’s degree in K-8 education through a collaboration with the College of Arts and Science’s Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies program. This pathway enables undergraduates to earn a Washington state elementary teaching credential in addition to an ELL endorsement, making it easier for teachers to get into a classroom. The College of Education is inspiring the next generation of leaders, thinkers and doers. In addition to our 10 academic program areas, we also offer continuing education opportunities so that working educators can stay current in their practice. We partner with school districts to offer endorsement academies in high-need areas, including ELL, Math and Special Education, enabling teachers to respond to the needs of the community. Additionally, our faculty and students are active in the community through programs such as the Seattle University Youth Initiative (SUYI).
