Who are the Provost Fellows?

Provost Fellows are Seattle University’s excellent teachers and scholars who have been selected to help lead the development of key initiatives outlined in the university’s five-year strategic plan, Reigniting Our Strategic Directions. This strategic plan is one of the most transformative endeavors in Seattle University’s 134-year history, which will shape our future and support long term success of current and future Redhawks. For the last two years the expertise and experience of the Provost Fellows has guided our goal to reimage and revise all of our academic programs, including our University Core, so that our students will be prepared to meet the greatest challenges that lie ahead – including sustainability and climate change, racial injustice and widening economic inequity, and rapid technological change.

Impact of the Provost Fellows

The greatest impact of our Provost Fellows is the impact our students have on the world.

“This bold and ambitious plan to draw on the leadership of Seattle University’s most accomplished faculty members provides a roadmap for our future that will position our students to be leaders and changemakers with compassion, competence and conscience,” Provost Martin says. “The impact our students will make in the world—buoyed by our achievements through Reigniting Our Strategic Directions —will be the true legacy of Seattle University and our mission.”

How do Provost Fellows help Seattle University?

Provost Fellows have led the work to reimagine the curricula of all 75 graduate and undergraduate departments and programs at Seattle University. They are currently working to implement a recently approved new Core Curriculum, which will offer students “foundational and transformational learning opportunities that help them develop critical thinking skills while also nurturing their sense of gratitude, wonder, curiosity, and joy.” This new Core Curriculum responds to both the changing needs of our students and society. Additionally, many academic programs are now working to align with student career opportunities with industry partners and non-profits. Other Provost Fellows are leading work in our Technology Ethics Initiative and the exploration of AI in our Innovative Pedagogies project. Provost Fellows help ensure that Seattle University remains true to our Jesuit identity and our student-centered and interdisciplinary approach to education rooted in Ignatian pedagogy.
