Celebrating 15 years of connecting campus and community
The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) connects classroom, campus and community to promote a more just and humane world. The CCE is the hub for the Seattle University Youth Initiative. Launched in 2011, this signature initiative unites campus and nearby neighborhoods to support kids and families. Our "cradle-to-career" network prepares local youth for success. Understanding that academic achievement is just part of the equation, Seattle University partners with over 100 community organizations to connect families to resources for stable housing, access to healthcare, safe neighborhoods and living-wage jobs.
- Annually, more than 1,000 Seattle U students participate in this effort.
- Seattle U Jumpstart provided 11,000 hours of classroom support at seven different sites for 115+ local preschoolers.
- 300+ Seattle U students serve at our network of partner Seattle Public Schools: Bailey Gatzert Elementary, Washington Middle and Garfield High School.
- The Center’s Education team expanded summer enrichment programs from 120 youth in 2011 to over 300 neighborhood youth in 2018.
