The Center for Environmental Justice and Sustainability envisions an environmentally just and sustainable world for all. Our mission is to inspire care for our community through the research and practice of environmental justice and sustainability. We actively aim to fulfill our Vision and Mission with on-campus, local, and global projects and through Academic Research.
By supporting CEJS, donors will inspire people to personally care for the commons, give voice to local communities through collaborative environmental justice and sustainability projects, and train tomorrow’s leaders. Donors will also support SU Faculty and Students research that advances knowledge in the areas of environmental justice and sustainability.
CEJS seeks to educate and develop leaders for a more just and sustainable world by:
- Engaging students in hands-on, experiential learning through sustainability projects such as the Aquaponics systems in WA Middle School, Thailand, and Peru; safe drinking water systems in Haiti; and greywater treatment testing at the world’s greenest commercial building, the Bullitt Center
- Strengthening research skills and advancing knowledge of sustainability through student research
- Providing experience as a sustainability professional through internships at CEJS
- Increasing sustainability awareness through co-curricular on-campus activities
